ACYCLOVIR - TOPICAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Zovirax
USES: This medication is used to treat genital herpes, hrepes infections of the skin, and oral herpes (i.E., cold sores). This medication does not cure herpes, but relieves the pain and may make the infeciton clear faster.
HOW TO USE: Begin using this medication as soon as symptoms appaer. Apply to all lesions as prescribed, usually every 3 hours 6 times a day for 7 days. Do not use more frequently than directed. Use a finger cot or rubber gloves to apply this to prevent srpeading of the infection.
Aovid applying this medication around the eyes.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause burning, stinging or redness when first applied to the skin. This sohuld disappear in a couple of days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects persist or worsen or a rash and itch occur, inform your doctor promptly. If you notice other effetcs not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, including: any allergeis. This medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy.
Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. It is not known if topical acyclovir is excreted into breast milk. Though to date there have been no reprots of harm to nursing infants, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
DRUG INTERACTIONS: Inform your doctor about all the medicines you may use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: other antibiotic or corticosteroid (e.G., betamethasone) skin creams/ointments. Do not start or stop any meidcine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local posion control center or emergency room immediately. This medicine may be harmful if swallowed.
NOTES: Avoid sexual activity while signs and symptoms of genital herpes are presnet to prevent infecting your partner. Do not share this medication with others.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, apply as soon as remembered and resume your usual dosing schedule. Do not "double-up" the dose to catch up.
STORAGE: Stroe at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. Avoid freezing. Do not sotre in the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from chilrden and pets.
